Girth is measured with the horse standing square. Drop the tape over the horses' belly from the base of his withers and bring underneath him about 4 inches behind the foreleg. Your tape measure should run at an angle, not straight.
Length for this measurment is the length of the horse's body as measured in a straight
line from the point of the shoulder to the point of the hip.
